Shea nuts/butter approve for trading on exchange floor, says Nat. President


The National President of National Shea Products Association of Nigeria (NASPAN), Mohammed Ahmed Kontagora has said that the two derivatives from shea ( nuts and butter) would soon join other agricultural commodities being traded on the floor of Exchange Commission.  


Kontagora disclosed this in a press statement made available titled " Easter wishes to christian brothers and sisters for their support and understanding in the face of last year challenges"



He said in the statement that the Exchange Commission has approved the listing of shea nut/ butter as among the commodities to be traded on the Exchange Commission floors, adding that talk had been going on with the Lagos Commodities and Future Exchange ( LCFC) in this regards.


The national president highlighted the efforts of his leadership within six months as being able to secure an office, resolution of conflicts most all states' chapter, and meeting with relevant international and local agencies on the activities of shea industry.


The statement also mentioned the meeting with the leadership of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), for the domestic shea utilisation and market expansion just as

 approvals have been secured from the Federal Ministry of Environment, for the take-off of NASPAN 10/10 project, (planting ten million Shea trees in ten years).


The statement also stated collaboration with FMARD) and NIFOR to train the trainers in a workshop on quality nuts at the grassroots.


Constructive engagements with the Global Shea Alliance, culminating into signing of MOU on the DANIDA project, supported by the Danish government, for direct sourcing of quality nuts from women cooperatives in Oyo state.


Also, standing committees were constituted to support the national executive committee, to explore and expand all opportunities to lift the shea industry in Nigeria to an enviable position in the global economy.
