Nasarawa Governor solicits Agric Minister’s collaboration for food security



The Governor of Nasarawa state, Engr. Abdullahi Sule has called for the Federal Government (FG) agricultural policies that would positively impact in the employment creation and commercialization of Agriculture in his state.

Governor Sule made this request to the Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono yesterday in a press statement signed by Mohammed Abdullahi Gana for the Director of information, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD)

Engr. Sule according to the statement was said to have asked the Minister of Agriculture for support in the area of agricultural activities based on President Mohammadu Buhari hallmark of diversification from crude oil to non oil sector of food productivity for economic sustainability, employment generation and food security, saying that Nasarawa is a state with great agricultural potentials in many crops.

The Governor said that ‘’ the state is truly an agricultural state and that if given the necessary support from the Federal Government, the state will add a lot of value to the Agricultural activities and the economic diversification of the present administration, especially in the area of rice, cassava, yam and other agricultural produce’’ 

Governor Sule solicited in the statement the FG’s support in the dualization and construction of some rural roads across the state, while he also appealed for the inclusion of the state in the Rural Access and the Agricultural Marketing Project (RAMP).


The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono who received the Governor in his office according to the statement commended the vast and enormous agricultural potentials in Nassarawa State, and added that ‘’ if harnessed will advance job and wealth creation  especially among the teaming youths in the state and also boost the nation’s economic growth’’

The Minister however assured the Governor of the Ministry’s support in the dualization of its rural roads to ease movement of agricultural produce, and stated that the measure would attract more investors, fast track agricultural development and increase food production in the state.
