Following the indefinite suspension of the provost of
Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan, Dr. Babajide Adelekan as a result of
his arraignment in court for financial impropriety by the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices Commission
(ICPC), Dr. Foluke Oluwatoyinbo was announced as the acting provost of the
institution. This was made known by a source close to the office of the
provost.
The source who declined to be identified said the suspension
came barely six months to the expiration of Dr. Adelekan's administration and
that it was due to a lot of under hand dealings, shoddy practices and
misappropriation of funds unravelled by an investigative team consisting of
representative of the Permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of
Agriculture and Rural Development, a representative of the Agriculture Research
Council of Nigeria (ARCN), a director of Agriculture in Oyo state and Mrs Teju
Phillips representing the College governing board.
The source said the
panel which frowned at the purchase of two Hilux Jeeps when there were no
classrooms and offices did not mince words in condemning the hospital and road
projects noting that those were the only visible projects on ground since the
inception of the administration in 2015.
The Executive provost Dr. Babajide Adelekan was said not to
be on hand to receive or meet with the visitors despite of being informed of
the visit and they went on a tour of the college ground inspecting structures
and facilities.
Continued the source, “at the library for example, they
requested for the day's newspaper which was not available. The college library
could not provide any contemporary academic journals when request was made. The
team went round to see the students in the examination halls as examination was
on going. Determined to get a detailed report within the short time, the team
moved to Lafia Hotels in the evening to continue the interactive session with
the principal officers and the unions, it was discovered that staff, Heads of
Departments and some principal officers were not in the know of a constituency
project vocational training going on in the institution.”
