GES fingerlings distributed to FCT farmers die

As another GES is about to commence, the Federal Capital Territory( FCT)Fish Farmers Association  has sent a caution to the Government to learn from the past experience where all the fingerlings input distributed to three thousand members during the last administrations was a fraud to the national food security as all of them died on arrival.

A member of the association anonymously  told Food Farm News that the last administration’s 1,000 fingerlings given to each registered fish farmer in the FCT all died without meeting the purpose they were  meant to serve saying  “We are making this complaint so as to enable the present administration of President Mohammadu Buhari not to also fall victim of some bad eggs in the system who will always want to use every government policy to enrich themselves at the expense of the farmers”

Food Farm News was told that all the 1,000 fingerlings given by the last administration to each registered farmers numbering about 1,000 in the FCT, did not survive a day as they all died on arrival as taptoes were given as seeds, thereby making the 10 bags of feeds also given as grant for five, while the remaining  half was paid  N6,000 for each bag thereby amounting to N25,000 paid to each farmer.

Our source said that the FCT Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) director messed  up the FG good intention of subsidizing input distribution as all the fingerlings were not the right seeds and that the farmers initially rejected them but added the director had to beg so as to save his job.
