FG Won’t Seize People’s Lands For Grazing Reserves – Ogbeh

Chief. Audu Ogbeh
Contrary to speculation and anxiety about the proposed grazing reserves, the minister of agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, has given the assurance that the federal government will not force anyone to surrender one inch of land for that purpose.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, Ogbeh, who was accompanied by the minister of women affairs, Aisha Alhassan, said he had held a meeting with the minister of interior on the issue of clashes between farmers and herdsmen.

He said that government had set out a plan to avert such clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the future by providing settlements for the cattle farmers.

“In a few days’ time, the government shall begin running a programme of paddock development in the Federal Capital Territory.

“We have got very good seeds of grass which we are going to start planting. Eventually and in the next one year, I hope we shall move most of our cows into ranches and reserves, depending on different terminologies people want to hear.
