A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE NATIONAL COCOA MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE (NCMC),NIGERIA PREPAREDNESS FOR COMPLIANCE WITH EUROPEAN UNION DEFEROSTATION REGULATION (EUDR)

 


As part of its pioneering efforts to put in place a National framework for EUDR preparedness and compliance, the National Cocoa Management Committee (NCMC) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) on 19th April, 2024 conducted a hybrid technical roundtable discussion that brought together over 100 cocoa stakeholders and value chain actors drawn from the public, private and the development community.

Minister promises cocoa development with funds from African Bank

 


The Minister, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS) Sen. Abubakar Kyari has promised to harness funds opportunity from the African Development Bank ( AfDB) to develop cocoa value chains, just as the ministry is set to support the European Union preparedness assessment check in the country.

Crops GeneBank: Nigeria joins global members to submit 20,720 seeds samples

 


In an effort towards global food security through guaranteed backups for improved seeds, Nigeria and fourteen others Genebanks members have deposited a total of 20,720 crop seeds varieties in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault located in Norwegian Island of Spitsbergen.

The state of emergency declared on Agriculture about a year ago by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ( BAT) has received serious batching for not being able to check challenges inherited from the past administrations as promised. Although the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS) Sen. Abubakar Kyari was on the contrary while reeling out the FG achievements as regards the sector.

GMOs probe, official says farmers are aware

 

As effort to probe already released Genetically Modified ( GM) crops' improved varieties into Nigerian markets by the lower chamber of the National Assembly is ongoing, the Director,  Agricultural Biotechnology Agency,  Dr. Rose Gidado has posited high farmers' awareness of the new improved technology especially in cotton, cowpea and maize.

2023-24 research report shows wheat production plummet

The recently concluded Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit in Nairobi, Kenya has declared strong support for increased sustainable soil management with more patronage to locally produced fertilizers, just as it was observed that the continent losses US$4 billion yearly on soil degradation.
