NiMet presents 2022 draft copy of SCP to stakeholders



The draft copy of the Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) was today presented to other stakeholders across all the sectors of the country’s economy for inputs before the final release for national use in February next month by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet). New yam registration, release will unloose billion dollars, says NRCRI Jude Obidiegwu

The lead breeder of a new yam candidate ( White rotundata UmuDr32) which was among the newly approved crop varieties at the recently held 33rd  national technical- committee meeting on crop varieties, Dr. Jude Obidiegwu has said the new improved yam seed is with striking attributes that made it very much outstanding over the last two released varieties as it is potentially capable of generating billions of dollar into yam productivity system both in local and international markets.

An official,  National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC), Mr. Zidafamor Ebiarede Jimmy has said Nigeria is already building a laboratory whereby DeoxyriboNucleic Acid ( DNA) fingers’ print of users will soon be established to monitor and ensure standard of all improved seeds in circulation.

Release of 2 Durum wheat varieties will enhance productivity

The Lake Chad Research Institute (LCRI) has presented two (DURUM) wheat varieties namely MBA-MAJA and ALTAR-84 as LACRIWHIT 12D and LACRIWHIT 13D respectively for registration and release for farmers’ cultivation to enhance the productivity of semolina and other pasta as food consumptions .
