The sixth annual meeting of the Animal Science
Association of Nigeria (ASAN)/ Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS)
commenced yesterday at Abuja with the theme “sustainable livestock production
for national development” as association members and other stakeholders
brainstorm on a way forward using standard and quality improvement by both
private and government sectors’ intervention through capacity building, effective
use of new technologies and acceptability of new innovations to attracting
market demand.

BCFN Alumni Series: Charlotte Payne on Edible Insects and Food Security

Charlotte Payne studies the environmental, health, and
socio-economic impacts of using insects as food with the Department of
Zoology at Cambridge and the Department of Population Health at Oxford.
Working in collaboration with others at Rothamstead Research Institute
and the University of Ouagadougou, Payne is developing methods to combat
food insecurity in Burkina Faso through breeding a popular edible
caterpillar species.
