The
thrips-transmitted tospoviruses are important economic problems for
crops in Florida. Tomato spotted wilt virus is a common tospovirus
species in peanut, vegetables, and ornamentals.

Bacterial Leaf Streak: Another New Corn Disease Out West, But Not Yet In Ohio
Bacterial leaf
streak (BLS), a foliar disease of corn caused by the bacterium
Xanthomonas vasicola pv. vasculorum, was reported in the US for the
first time in Nebraska and has since been found in several other states
out west, including Kansas, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, South
Dakota, Texas and Oklahoma. It has not yet been found in Ohio and
neighboring states.

BLS has a very close
resemblance to other common foliar diseases of corn such as gray leaf
spot (GLS).

What is Happening In The Corn Plant During The Month Of September?

In mid-August,
USDA-NASS made their initial corn yield projections for the 2016 season.
However, September is really the month when we project how our farming
skills and previous decisions come together to produce a corn crop. By
this time, yield becomes secondary because the season and growth of the
crop is largely over. A lot can still happen, but the focus of many
decisions are based upon plant and grain moisture.
