Zamfara announces Anthrax outbreak, says control measures in place

The Zamfara state government has announced the outbreak of a zoonotic disease called Anthrax in some of its villages, said there is a containment effort already.

A reliable source told Food Farm News that Zamfara state government health authority in collaborations with Nigerian Centre for Disease Control ( NCDC) have swung into containment actions against the outbreak using isolation methods for the affected animals while enforcing quarantine protocols with vaccination campaigns for livestock.

Authorities have also advised residents to avoid direct contact with livestock and animal products for the disease being a zoonotic type which can easily infect human beings.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Livestock, Dr. Chinese Ijoma Akujobi has advised livestock owners to be vigilant and ensure that their animals are vaccinated so as to prevent the disease spread.
