Amb. Oluremi confers President of African farmers' Association, promises transformation

Ambassador Akin Davis Oluremi has been officially conferred the African President of the Association of Farmers for Agriculture Transformation (AFFAT-Africa).

The investiture honours took place this last weekend at Abuja where the new African farmers' president promised to reposition food security situation in Africa using farm settlement model of assisting farmers into more production.

Oluremi highlighted the pressing issue of food insecurity that has plagued Nigeria, and by extension African continent pointing that Nigeria should serve as the launchpad for the continent-wide initiative against hunger.

According to him “Food security in Africa is not just a pressing issue, it's a source of shame that we need to address immediately. It’s disheartening to see people begging for food in a land rich with fertile soil and favorable climatic conditions begging for food"

" Africa has the agricultural resources to not only feed its own population but also to contribute significantly to global food supply. Our goal is to ensure that no one in Nigeria or Africa has to line up in desperation for food"

Oluremi promised to establish farm settlements with resources for training, and support to rural farmers that would enable them to maximize their agricultural potential.

“These settlements will be the backbone of our initiative, providing the necessary infrastructure and community support for farmers to thrive " he explained.

He also pointed out that Nigeria's vast agricultural land, with its exceptional rainfall and fertile conditions, remains underutilized. “It is unacceptable, despite our resources, we are still dependent on food aid. We must harness the capabilities of our farmers and provide them with the tools and knowledge to cultivate our land effectively" The event was attended by government officials, agricultural stakeholders and others.
