FACAN wants new rice executives to intensify productivity

The Vice President (VP), Federation of Agricultural Commodity Associations of Nigeria (FACAN), Alhaji Sheriff Balogun has advised the new leadership of Rice organization to ensure higher productivity of the produce for more economic earnings in the country.



Balogun said this last week Thursday after the election conducted by FACAN under the observation of the officials, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI) that had Alhaji Mustafa Ahmadu (the Seriki Noma Adamawa merged as the first president, National Rice Producers, Processors, Marketers and Millers Association of Nigeria.

The FACAN VP who commended the coming together of all the rice stakeholders at the rice value chains under the new association umbrella stressed the need to work as a team to ensure more productivity for local consumption and export earnings, added that the coordination members have shown readiness for serious business.

Balogun advised that standard and quality productivity must not be compromised for healthy competitiveness with other producing countries, stressed that rice being a strategic crop has endeared President Buhari's support.

He pointed that the presidential opportunity given to the development of rice productivity must be made sustainable by the time government faces other crops.

Speaking, the newly elected president, Ahmadu said that the Association would be ready to partner with both public and private sectors to uplift the status of the products to a more enviable economic position in terms of empowerment to people and the entire nation, saying that there is room for everyone to participate in the activities of the association at the local and international levels. 

The rice president said it is the right thing to have one association under the rice sector that would ensure adoption by everybody despite any differences.

Ahmadu thanked all the other leaders of the various associations who came together to agree on having one association, saying with their support more will be achieved as he urged them to join hands together to move the sector and the association forward as they intend to increase the production of rice in the country.

 He added that now is the time for Nigeria to be the biggest producer of rice, stressed that his association will be working and collaborating more with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), FMITI, FACAN, and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) to ensure that Nigerian  rice is known globally as more improved technologies will be introduced’’.He added that more technologies will be introduced to enhance productivity" .

Among the three Deputy National president elected was, Mr. Kumbi Braithwaite from Southwest, Peter Dama Riman from North Central, and Ibrahim Salah Northwest. The elected Six National vice President are hon Abdulazeez Tonkun from Northeast, Mr. Atrogor Augustine South-south, Alh. Abdusalam Lamido  Northwest, Chief Ogboefi Enakwachi Akpa Southeast, Mrs. Bolashade Osundairo Southwest, Ishaku Samaila North Central.

The position of the National Secretary was won by Engr. Adam Dabban, while Asst National Secretary went to Alh. Sani Ibrahim Yayi, National Treasurer went to Alh. Auwal Mohammed, the Financial Secretary was won by Abdulkadiri Ibrahim Gaya as Muhammad Umar Kura was elected National Publicity and Nicholas Aronu as his Assistant National Publicity.

Others are Alh Mohammed Ali Baba for the position of National Organizing Secretary, his assistant is Patrick  Eriba Ogabor while the Auditor went to Mohammed Dansuleman, Hajiya Ramatu Gulma was elected the National women leaders and the position of the national youth leader went to Dr. Murtala Aliyu.

  1. With this Development what happened to RIFAN? Are they going to work hand in hand? Or one gives room for other? And I hope most of these newly Executives are not Abuja based as it's to tradition of FACAAN with endless lifespan.
