Agric Staff commend Minister’s Sack for Incompetency

*AFAN wishes new minister well

The staff members of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) have hailed the sacking of the former Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono for his incompetency to achieve the food sufficiency and security dream of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as being promised to the Nigerian people.

President Buhari at the cabinet executive meeting yesterday at Villa has announced the disengagement of Sabo Nanono as the minister of Agriculture and he has since been replaced by Dr. Mohammed Mahmood Abubakar who was moved as Minister of Environment to the FMARD as a replacement to the former.

It was further mentioned that the sack of the minister is coming on the heel of the outcome of the critical review assessment of the programmes and project activities performance in relation to the objective standard of President Buhari’s administration delivery promises to the people of Nigeria in terms of food sufficiency and security.

Food Farm News’ visit to the ministry immediately the news was broken by the Senior Special Adviser to President on Media, Mr. Femi Adesina revealed the happiness of the majority of the staff members to the decision of President Buhari, who some of them said is long overdue saying his experience as a practicing farmer and former banker did not bring any impact on the food system development even with the support of the President and National Assembly to the sector in order to achieve food security and checkmate import.

Many of them who spoke under anonymity said that the incompetency of the minister has affected a lot of development the sector would have experienced to ensure food sufficiency and security since the sacked minister came on board.

One of the staff members pointed that there hasn't been any progress since the Minister assumed office, no training, nothing, despite the fact that the ministry’s ability to galvanize the sector into commercialization saying that "Go and look at his office that looks as if that is where Jesus Christ is going to appear to the whole world, go there, it's like a four-star hotel in Canada. This is  a ministry where we are suffering from hunger, the last time we did training now is 2014 in this ministry, is it money we are lacking, it is just wickedness"

Other speakers commended President Buhari for sacking Nanono, saying his approach to agricultural development is very retrogressive even as a farmer and former banker, they added that  the sector needs a technocrat like Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina who actually gave a direction to the sector that others can follow to enhance the food security of the nation.

Meanwhile, the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) under the leadership of Architect, Ibrahim Kabiru has assured the new Minister of Agriculture full cooperation with a prayer to Allah to guide him in the new assignment saying "AFAN wishes the newly appointed Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mohammad Mohmood Abubakar, the former Honorable Minister of Environment every success in the new job’’
