PRESS RELEASE- OGUN STATE GOVERNMENT APPROVES COUNTERPART FUND FOR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA/INTERNATIONAL FUND FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT (IFAD) ASSISTED VALUE CHAIN DEVELOMENT PROGRAMME (VCDP)

The Executive Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun, MFR, has approved the sum of N87.3Million as payment of Ogun State counterpart fund, for the implementation of Federal Government/International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Assisted Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) in Ogun State.

The Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) is a Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and IFAD Assisted Project, with the objective of enhancing incomes and food security of rural farming households engaged in Rice and Cassava value chains.

The FGN/IFAD Assisted Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) has eight participatory LGAs in Ogun State namely: Obafemi Owode, Odeda, Odogbolu, Ijebu East, Ijebu North East, Ifo, Yewa North and Yewa South.

The provision of the counterpart fund for the VCDP Project is part of Ogun State Government support to women and youths, who are engaged in the Rice and Cassava value chains, in line with the State Agricultural Agenda of Food Security, Job Creation and Income Generation.

This goodwill by His Excellency has further strengthened the position of Ogun State, as one of the States that are up to date with payment of counterpart fund, in the FGN/IFAD Assisted Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) in Nigeria.
