SGF demands accurate data for agriculture

The Statisticians-General of the Federation (SGF) Dr. Yemi Kale has called for accurate data to better planning and development of agriculture towards achieving food security through efficient productivity in Nigeria and Africa.  

Dr. Yemi kale speaking at an event in Abuja pointed that data can play a major role in the food productivity value chains of agriculture adding that accurate figure statistics would impact in every human endeavours including feeding.   

According to him “The significant of statistical information for making evidence-based decisions that guide the implementation, policy, monitoring of existing policy and evaluation of the effectiveness of policy decisions cannot be over-emphasized in any industry”

In his remark, the Director General, Raw Material Research development Council (RMRDC), Dr Hussaini Ibrahim also emphasised the need for more finance for agriculture for the purpose of full diversification from crude oil economy to commercial food production with processing and value addition saying “this requires the zeal for provision of official statistics as a veritable and indispensable tool needed for driving the quest for economic growth and sustainability of the African nation. Agriculture is the way to go now since the country is looking for other options aside oil. We need to increase finance in agriculture’’
