More than 100 boxes
of stolen chicken portions were recovered just hours after being taken
off a hijacked truck in Nyanga, police said on Wednesday.
An armed gang of
three targeted the truck while it was stopped at traffic lights in
Vanguard Drive, near Langa, on Tuesday morning, said Nyanga police
spokesperson Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.
"The suspects took
over the driving and blind-folded the driver, stashed him inside a boot
of a car and drove away with him. They later dumped him in Mfuleni."The truck was later found in Zwelitsha, Nyanga.
Sitshitshi said the boxes were found hidden at seven addresses."In some of the houses the boxes were found stashed under the bed and couches."
Four men and three
women, aged 23 to 57, will appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court soon
on a charge of possession of stolen property. The suspects who hijacked the truck are still at large.
Police appealed to residents not to accept stolen goods and to teach their children to do the same.
"Crime can only be deterred when parents take a stand to say 'no'."
Anyone who might
know the suspects should call the Nyanga Cluster Trio Crimes Hotline at
021 684 1531, or SAPS Nyanga at 021 380 3300 or Crime Stop at 08600
