President Mohammadu Buhari |
What should have been the biggest of all agricultural events
in the history of farmers in Nigeria may have been kept on hold until the
return of President Mohammadu Buhari who went to Britain on medical vacation
since 19th January and recently returned on the 10th March.
Already activities toward having the event towards the end of
February or first week of March had already started in the FMARD as the
Minister, Chief Audu ogbeh has inaugurated a committee which is to plan and
organize the first ever national farmers’ day celebration in Nigeria.
But, Food Farm News finding
revealed that the event that is meant to celebrate farmers and other stakeholders
in the sector had to be suspended until the return of President Buhari who
happens to be the initiator and owner of the project.
It was reliably gathered that the event might not take place
except Mr. President returns, and series of prayers is already going on for his
quick recovery as many believe that such event would boost farmers’ morale to
produce more towards checkmating food import bill in the country.
In a press release earlier sent out by FMARD, the Minister,
Chief Audu Ogbeh stated that National Farmers’ day would be an annual event
where each state would showcase its effort in agriculture with the aim of lifting
the sector, and to make Nigerians respect and recognize farmers as major nation
builders.
