Kano hosts next National Council meeting on Agricultural, year 2016 policies for approval

The year 2016 National Council on Agricultural and Rural Development (NCARD) will take place at the Kano state starting from 7^th to 10^th February as stakeholders from all the federation will converge to present paper of memorandum for approval as implementation document for the year in terms of agricultural production, processing and marketing.

 

The last NCARD meeting was held in Abeokuta, Ogun State where the hosting right was assigned to Kano state in the preceding year of 2014 which could not hold due to fear of Boko Haram insurgence until this year that the council will be chaired by the present Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh while all the commissioners from the states will join him in the approval of the new implementing document for the 2016 agricultural food security policies.

Many of the states’ agricultural policies are expected to be brought forward to interface with federal government’s own for the purpose of collaboration and partnership for the proper harnessing of potential in the agricultural sector.

Although there are many other issues that would be addressed as the hosting state has agreed to shoulder bulk of the financial responsibility of the programme due to cash traps occasioned by paucity of fund as stakeholders have expressed anxiety of low turnout reasoned due to funding scarcity in the FMARD.

Food Farm News learnt that many directors of the FMARD would not be attending as result of lack of fund as only those that will be presenting papers would be allowed to attend; this according to our finding is part of measures to cut cost towards ensuring the success of the event. Already the Kano state government has taken up the responsibility of financing the event with some other promises from the friends of the FMARD.
