Livestock Reform: Tinubu promises lasting solution to farmer-herder conflicts

As part of effort to ensure peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders towards food security, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to make use of the new report on Livestock being submitted to him yesterday at his office.

The President of All Farmers of Nigeria, Architect Karbi Ibrahim in a statement sent to food Farm News said President Tinubu has promised to make use of the report to finding a long lasting solution to the great challenge in the sub sector.

Read the full text of his message to us "REPORT ON THE

PRESENTATION OF THE REPORT AND BLUE PRINT ON LIVESTOCK REFORMS IN NIGERIA TO MR. PRESIDENT,BOLA AHMED TINUBU AT THE VILLA ON THURSDAY,14th SEPTEMBER,2024. I am happy to inform you that yesterday at 2pm the Livestock Reforms Committee set up by the erstwhile government of Kano state led by HE Dr. Umar Ganduje which organized a national conference at NAF Conference Centre, ABUJA in February 2023,an event attended by many Chapter Chairmen, formally submitted its report and Blue Print to Mr President, Ahmed Bola Tinubu,in a well attended ceremony at the Presidential Villa.

The President during the event and in a widely televised response promised to use our report to reinvigorate the Livestock Sector and bring about lasting solution to the perennial Farmer-Herder conflicts affecting the optimum performance of our Small Holders Farmers (SHFs.)

As we have continuously espoused this as a serious threat factor to Nigeria’s attainment of Food Security the recommendations of the  committee portend the possible solution being sought.

We implore all of you to support the process to bring about lasting peace between farmers and herders who are all members of AFAN.

We promise to continue to lead AFAN to greater heights so we crave for your continued understanding and unflinching support as always.

In another breath I join other members of NEC to welcome the FCT acting Chairman to the NEC/ NWC platform and pray that she will bring her wealth of experience to add value to the SHFs in FCT and all Nigerians in the last analysis"
