Genetic experts commend farmers for resilience against hunger

 


Genetic Engineering technocrats from National Biotechnology Development Agency ( NABDA) and West Africa, African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) have both commended Nigeria farmers for their resilience against hunger.


Both the Director General (DG) NABDA, Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha and Regional Representative,  AATF Dr. Jean Baptiste have expressed their appreciation for small scale farmers' relentless efforts to fight hunger through food productivity despite climatic, pest and disease challenges.


These are the words of salutations by the two personalities to farmers at the world hunger day held this week Sunday ( May 28) at Abuja with a honour of national farmers' day to appreciate food producers and their adoption of new genetically modified inputs to check food insecurity.


Prof. Mustapha stressed the need to support small scale farmers being the backbone of food productivity in the country, saying the the world hunger day is meant to x-ray effort of reducing food shortage in different perspectives.


Speaking in the same vein, Dr. Jean Baptiste acknowledged the resilience and doggedness of farmers amid daunting challenges pointed that the sector is faced with numerous uncertainties and adversities including climate change vagaries, pest, diseases and unpredictable markets prices.


Explaining the objectives of world hunger day, the Director, Agricultural Biotechnology Department, NABDA, Dr. Rose Gidado stated that 

" The goal is to honor and recognize the hard work of farmers who feed their communities and country as a whole "
