Cattle Association appeals president elect for new tech training

President, Cattle Breeers And Dealers Association  of Nigeria ( CBDA), Prince Segun Dasaolu has called on the incoming administration of President elect, Alhaj Ahmed Bola Tinubu to imbibe training of farmers on the use of modern farming technologies that would enhance food productivity and development towards secured nutritional food.

Prince Segun Dasaolu stated this in a speech he delivered at the official opening of his Association 's new chapter in Edo state, yesterday.

He expressed that standard productivity of animals in view of health and human nutrition towards food security has necessitated the need for capacity building for cattle farmers, thereby appealing for the partnership of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and all others as a new incoming administration in this regard.

He pointed out that recent statistics puts the livestock sector as capable of contributing 33 trillion annually with cattle value chains providing substantial part of the estimated revenues, but however said the sector has sadly  suffered neglect both from Government and private sector. 

His speech promised to revamp and make the sector attractive to investors, breeders and marketers, saying the chapters of the association would be spread across the states to upgrade cattle business value chain with the use of modern technologies to achieve standard productivity for more economic earnings.

" We are therefore appealing to the incoming administration ( at all levels) to partner with this noble objective of ours to train and retrain members in order to be able to adopt modern farming technologies that will ensure national development"

He added that the association would use conflict resolution committees in each state to address insecurity, saying economic development cannot be achieved in an insecured atmosphere.

According to Dasaolu " A conflict resolution committee will be set up in each state comprising all critical stakeholders with a clear mandate of:

1. Profiling herders with clear identity in each state to curb crime associated with the business.

2. Clear identification of animals e.g. ear tagging as we are willing to partner with development partners and the Government in achieving the recently launched laudable programme of the Federal Government on National Animal Identification and Traceability System (NAITS)"

He stressed that the members of the association have been told to adopt ranching methods, pointing that " geo-fencing our mission is to curb the menace of wondering of animals, therefore we will encourage our members to ranch their herds" 

"We cannot achieve the above goals without the support of the government, I will seize this opportunity to appeal to the good Government of Edo State to make the state a model state in the development of cattle value chains"
