Produce rejection: FG to install tracibility machine as checkmate measure

The Federal Government (FG) through its Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI) will soon install a machine to ensure standard tracibility code to prospective buyers abroad.

This provision of standard generation machine with the ability to create code that can be scanned for onward transfer to buyers abroad towards certification was a great achievement on the part of FG according to the Director, department of agricultural commodities, FMITI, Mr. Irimiya Kaura.

Kaura pointed out that the engagement of the technology would reduce the incidences of agricultural produce rejection abroad without any tracibility, adding that billions of Naira had been lost into the process without anybody being sanctioned.

Mr. Kaura speaking in an exclusive interview with Foodfarmnews said that the issue of the produce coming from Nigeria being rejected will soon become a thing of the past as the tracibility machine would be able to give information of where the substandard procurement may have occurred.

He pointed that the installation of the machine would enable the ministry to be able to get detailed information about the source of any produce to be sent abroad, adding that a code will be generated which can be scanned and sent to the prospective buyers abroad as evidence of standard required certification.

The Director of commodities department stated further that " the FMITI in view of billions of Naira being lost to agricultural commodities rejection has procured a detective machine that will process a code through an information from the exporter about his source of procurement that can be scanned and sent to the importer for standard and quality confirmations"

"For example, an exporter of bean will tell us where his produce was bought with details of the producer. All this information will be processed in the machine to generate a code that can be scanned because the machine has the capacity to generate the code. This code can be sent to the exporter to confirm the standard requirements . This we believe will reduce the incidences of our produce rejection in international markets abroad. Also the tracibility will help us to know who and who to be sanctioned"
