Agric correspondents, Ministry hold national summit on Livestock transformation

The Agricultural Correspondents of Nigeria (ACAN) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) will on Tuesday, April 26th host participants across the states of the federation to a national summit on livestock transformation plan.

The summit is meant to interface agric reporters with other stakeholders in the public and private sectors of the livestock economy as its inherent potential in wealth creation free of incessant conflicts between the farmers and herdsmen will be well discussed.

Speaking on the upcoming event, the chairman, ACAN, Mr. John Oba said the summit is to bring into media focus the essence of livestock subsector economy being one of the major pillars of the global food system that worth thirty three trillions naira, saying that is why development of right policy for the sector is inevitable in order to harness it full potential.

Oba pointed that the event would address and critically dissect gray areas for better understanding of government policy on livestock and its management for proper profit making and food security for meat and milk.

Also speaking in connection with the event,  The Director Animal Husbandry Services Mrs. Lai Solarin, applauded the summit, saying it was long overdue as it will address many misconceptions about NLTP and animals management.

Mrs. Lai-Solarin said that partnering with ACAN is the best that has ever happened as awareness will be created with correction to many misgivings on NLTP as the agric correspondents themselves will be present for on the spot reporting.

According to her " the Nigeria livestock industry has not received this type of attention for so many years. So this summit like so many others and programs on the livestock industry is another way of drawing attention or showcasing what has been done"
