IAR promises a guide support for farmers against pandemic

As part of effort to ensure that farmers overcome the negative effects of the ongoing covid-19 pandemic coupled climate change challenges, the Executive Director (ED), Institute of Agricultural Research (IAR), Samaru, Zaria, Prof. Mohammed Ishiyaku has promised that his institute is working to release a guide on how to surmount the challenges of pandemic seasons for increased food productivity to farmers.

This was disclosed to Food Farm News during an interview with the IAR boss at his Samaru, Zaria office last week Thursday.

Prof. Ishiyaku said that ‘’the guide will soon be made available to farmers so as to help them improve on their farming activities, and more especially now that they are having challenges with the Covid 19 pandemic, even with the presence of restriction’’ pointing that the document would help them to take measures on how they can improve farming activities more effectively’’

He added that his Institute is getting more prepared for the rainy season by looking at climate change related issues in order to ensure high food productivity through improved technologies for both droughts and lengthy rainy seasons in its mandate crops, just as the government is committed to ensure that the country is food secured.
