President encourages farmers to take insurance cover serious

AFAN President laments arm banditry, bloodshed in Katsina

The National President, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Architect Kabir Ibrahim has advised all small scale farmers in view of climate change vagaries and impact of covid-19 to take insurance cover for their crops very serious so as to be able to make more profit in the business. Architect Ibrahim stated this in an interview he had with Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) last week.

Ibrahim stressed that insurance cover must be incorporated into farming activities, saying that it was not only when government wanted to give loan to farmers that the issue of insurance must be taken serious, but rather farmers must see it as part of farming culture and best economic practice to mitigate losses against diseases or any other climate change vagaries.

He hinted that the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet)  prediction on flash floods have hit many regions thereby impeding envisaged bumper harvest for year 2020, but insisted that various insurance cover must be made available to give farming more protection against losses, adding that Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC) must be very conspicuous in their activities by way of prompt payment of premium so as to encourage many other farmers.

AFAN president however pointed that Government should be ready to invest in extension services, improved technology by way of going digital using videos to educate on how to plant on social media, since many farmers now have telephones since the days of Growth Enhancement Support ( GES).
