Obasanjo describes Agricbusness risky, commends Ogun commissioner

The former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has described agricultural business as very risky saying Ogun state government was lucky to have got a technocrat who understands the sector in person of Dr. Samson Odedina as its Agric Commissioner.

Chief Obasanjo stated this last Friday while answering a question on the need for more investment in Agriculture during stakeholders monitoring visit to a 900 hectare rice hub at Eggua, Yewa North Local Government, Ogun state.

President Obasanjo in company of the Olubara of Ibara, Oba Jacob Olufemi Omolade said that Agriculture as a business involved a lot of  risk saying Ogun state was lucky to have got a professional who has brought his wealth of knowledge in agriculture and commercialization into bare for the benefit of the state.

According to him ‘’ Agriculture is a very risky business; don’t let anybody deceive you about that. I think the advantage you have in Ogun state here is your commissioner, i am not saying it because he is here, and if he is not doing well i will say it. The agric commissioner is a professional who understands the sector and is a farmer who understands Agriculture from the professional point of view, and he understands agribusiness from farmers’ point of view, and you need that otherwise an armchair person cannot get anywhere’’

The 900 hectares of rice hub in Eggua, Yewa Local government is one of the 10 rice plantations owed by the state to ensure food security, wealth and job creation for the youths which according to Dr. Odedina was also one of the priority areas of His Excellency, the Governor, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun to diversify the economy, adding that state government would always be indebted to the support of former president to the  agricultural agenda of state.
