The Registrar/ CEO, Nigeria Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) Prof. Eustace Iyayi has hinted that the position of the country in the global feeds production ranking scaled up to 40th position from 51th in the world at the present six million metric tons of feeds being annually produced.
Speaking in his office at the permanent Headquarters of the Institute at Abuja, Prof. Iyayi said that through the concerted of NIAS, the country has recorded an improvement in the annual livestock feeds production that meets the global standard saying it has reflected in its world ranking from 51th to 40 position, stressed that the Institute is the Secretariats of the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) and International Feed Regulation at the same time.
Prof. Iyayi said in an effort towards enhancing improvement in terms of feeds standard, the Institute will be leading Nigerian delegates comprising of NAFDAC and FMARD to the annual international feed regulators’ meeting holding in Atlanta, US, pointed that the conference would start towards the end of the month, and NIAS will give an update about feeds legislation in Nigeria.
He said that presently NIAS through the mandate given by the IFIF was the sole trainer of feed manufacturers in the country on the good manufacturing practices.
