Organic: We use Quarantine certification to export yam, says President


 The president of Yam Produce, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria, Prof. Simon Itwange has said that the only certification that aided all the yams exported some few years back was the one given by the National Agricutural Quarantine Service ( NAQS) as there was no official standards yet for organic produce.

Yam farmers hail FG for grant, advocates use of scale to sell

The National President, Yam Farmers, Processors and Exporters Association, Prof. Simon Irtwange has commended the Federal Government (FG) for giving them millions out of the N50 billion export expansion grant just as he wanted the use of weighing scale to sell yams in all market places. Prof. Irtwange said this during an interview with Foodfarmnews at Abuja recently.

New yam registration, release will unloose billion dollars, says NRCRI Jude Obidiegwu

The lead breeder of a new yam candidate ( White rotundata UmuDr32) which was among the newly approved crop varieties at the recently held 33rd  national technical- committee meeting on crop varieties, Dr. Jude Obidiegwu has said the new improved yam seed is with striking attributes that made it very much outstanding over the last two released varieties as it is potentially capable of generating billions of dollar into yam productivity system both in local and international markets.

Association pleads Senate, Pres. Buhari to sign the bill asking for yam export


The president, National Association of Yam Farmers, Processors and Marketers, Prof. Simeon Itwange has appealed to the upper house of the National Assembly to exhibit the same level of commitment shown by  its lower house committee on commerce to pass the bill asking for the repeal of the  prohibition Act that is preventing yams and other agricultural commodities from being exported, just as he wanted President Mohammudu Buhari to assent the bill into an effective law for more market potentials to farmers.

NRCRI woos seed companies to market newly released yam varieties


A yam breeder doubled as coordinator for yam research program, National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), Umudike, Dr. Jude Obidiegwu has asked private seed companies in the country to take the potential advantages in the newly released yam varieties to the market places for the farmers and other end users’ benefit. Dr. Obidiegwu made this appeal after the official registration and release of the three different yam varieties by the National release committee chaired by Chief Oladosu Awoyemi at the conference room, National Centre for Genetic and Biotechnology (NACGRAB), Ibadan recently.

A new executive elected for yam association


The Federal Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (FMITI) and Federation of Agricultural Commodity Association Nigeria (FACAN) has conducted an election that emerged  Prof. Simon Itwange as the National President of the National Yam, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria and six other Vice President (VP) from the geopolitical zones of country.
