The new released cowpea will address farmers' need, says an IITA Prof



A plant breeder and seed specialist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA),  Prof. Lucky O. Omoigui has said that a recently registered and released cowpea named FUAMPEA 5, aka ALKAM SUPER will enhance farmers' commercialization for its high yield and stability against stresses and striga over other existing old varieties.

NVRC blows hot, gives last opportunity to seed sample defaulters

The chairman, National Varietal Release Committee ( NVRC) Prof. Olusoji Olufajo has fired that no candidate for registration and release will be further entertained without compliance with the required quantity of seed samples meant for submission in National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB) and National Agricutural Seeds Council (NASC)  for safety cum multiplication for farmers respectively.

FG sets to strengthen food security strategy with 64 working members

FG varietal committee releases six grasses for pasture, and others

 

The National Committee on Naming, Registration and Release of Crop Varieties, Livestock/ Fisheries domiciled in National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology ( NACGRAB), Ibadan, Oyo state has registered and released six improved pasture varieties to enhance animals' feeds along with hybrid maize, wheat, millet, pepper, tomato, rice, cowpea, sesame, barley and soybean. The event took place on last week Thursday at Lafia Hotel, Apata, Ibadan.

FG,FAO to reposition food security towards addressing malnutrition

  

 The Federal Government ( FG) and Food and Agriculture Organization ( FAO) have recently collaborated to come up with a project tagged Nourishing Nigeria to address malnutrition and food insecurity in the country.

AfCFTA opportunities: Sao Tome Prime Minister inaugurates local organizing committee


The Prime Minister/ Head of Government, Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, His Excellency Dr. Americo Ramos yesterday officially inaugurated the local organizing committee of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in Nigeria towards a preparation to properly harness the business opportunities without barriers among member countries in Africa.
