The chairman, National Varietal Release Committee ( NVRC) Prof. Olusoji Olufajo has fired that no candidate for registration and release will be further entertained without compliance with the required quantity of seed samples meant for submission in National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB) and National Agricutural Seeds Council (NASC) for safety cum multiplication for farmers respectively.
Prof. Olusoji Olufajo said this last Thursday in Ibadan during the 35th meeting for registration and release, saying that the committee would no longer attend to anybody who didn't come with the required quantity samples of its candidates.
Olufajo therefore ordered that the technical sub committee chairmen for crops and others should henceforth bring no candidate before him without bringing what is required of them to NACGRAB and NASC as standard submission.
Speaking in the same tune, the chairman sub-technical committee on crops, Prof. S. G Ado, pledged that such would never happen again, saying that " I see no reason why this sanction cannot hold"
Prof. Olakojo also pointed out that sanctions should start from non-picking of seed certificates for registration as he queried why breeders are not bothered about this stressed that any publicity bred seeds without certificates more than three year should be kept in the catalog.
The Registrar of NVRC, Dr. A.U. Okeke had in the last meeting encouraged those concerned with the submission of required duplicate samples of materials to NACGRAB and NASC to do so as fast and right, stating that all the materials must come along with them for registration and release.
