In fulfillment of its pledge to fund forward sales under the flexible FX regime, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclosed plans to within the next few months, fund the 60-day forward sales and request from the agricultural, aviation, machinery and raw materials sectors, thus guaranteeing letters of credit (LCs) for importers to ship in required goods.

Birds, locusts swarm threaten harvests in Yobe

Increasing population of Queala birds in Nguru, Ngeji and Ngalda wetlands is threatening bumper harvests in five local government areas of Yobe, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mustapha Gajirima, has said.

Farmers in Jigawa and Kano states have attributed the bumper harvest recently recorded in this year cowpea cultivations to the effectiveness of the recently- introduced five different resistant cowpea improved seeds varieties jointly innovated by the University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAM) and Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA)

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has pledged the state’s continuous collaboration with research institutions to facilitate extension and timely input supply to farmers in order to ensure resilient farming systems in the semi-arid region of West and Central Africa. He made this pledge as he declared open the International Workshop on Future Resilient Farming Systems for semi-arid West and Central Africa, and the commissioning of International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) Nigeria office, Kano.
