Food and Agriculture Organization ( FAO) of the United Nations ( UN) is very particular about food security around the globe.
In view of this FAO renders technical support to many member nations to ensure food security and sustainability on the table for every citizens of the world.
Food security by this Organization means Accessibility, Availability and Affordability that is the 3( AAAs) to every citizen of the nations.
The question is how has this technical support translated to reality in Nigeria? This is still a matter of concern to many stakeholders who feel everything as regards Agriculture and its development are absolutely nothing to write home about, and reason why the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a state of emergency in the sector for a renewed hope to boost food security in the country.
The 2023 WORLD food celebration in Nigeria was low key, and this has been the case in the last five or more years due to non performance of the sector due to many factors ocassioned by climate change challenges, insecurity caused by killing of farmers, kidnappers' activities and herders/ farmers clashes cum decadence in our infrastructure that have made storage, processing and road availability difficult with the Almighty corruption in the system.
In his words on the celebration day, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS) Minister, Alhaji Abubakar Kyari said that the nation is ready to reposition the sector with all it takes as being directed by President Tinubu with his declaration of state of emergency in the sector to achieved a renewed hope of technology driven Agriculture along the value chains of productivity.
Looking at all the implementation processes of all agricultural programs in the country except a few of them with foreign assistance are actually doing well. The rest are corruption ridden with poor implementation.
Therefore, for food Security to portray its real meaning of 3As in Nigeria, FAO needs more to perform to its member nations who are not doing well in view of its technical support and advice so as to put such nation on her toes.
Since global food security is its hallmark, then there must be a reason for sanctions to countries like Nigeria who have not been doing well upon billions of naira yearly spent on the sector's budgetarily without nothing to show.
This action is necessary to give justification to its technical support to the food systems development in Nigeria.
