FG embarks on wheat productions, postpones food summit, council meeting

The Federal Government ( FG) has embarked  on commercial wheat farming under the National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-Pocket Program ( NAGS-AP), just as the food security summit and National Council Meeting on Agriculture have been postponed.

Minister of Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ( FMAFS), Sen. Abubakar Kyari said this yesterday during the questions and answers after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding ( MOU) between the ministry and  John Deere, a tractor producing company.

Already, the list of Agro dealers participating in 15 states of the federation dry season wheat Borlaug 100 seed variety multiplication have been sent out with their collection and redemption centres.

Also, the FMAFS in a statement issued and signed by Technical Advisor ( strategic communications), Mr. Kingsley Osadolor on why the food summit and National council meeting would not hold said majority of the expected stakeholders at the two events are already busy with dry season farming activities in view of timeliness.

Full text of the statement read this " This is to notify all stakeholders and Council members that the Agriculture and Food Security Summit and the National Council on Agriculture and Food Security Meeting earlier scheduled to take place in November, 2023 have been postponed.

The deferment of the Food Security Summit and National Council on Agriculture Meeting is necessitated by the need to proceed without hitches on the take-off of the Dry Season Wheat Farming under the National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro -Pocket Programme (NAGS-AP).

As would be expected, many of the critical stakeholders and participants at the Summit and Council  Meeting are engaged  at the moment with time-bound activities relating to the dry season wheat programme. 

New dates for the Food Security Summit as well as National Council on Agriculture and Food Security Meeting will be communicated in due course"

The states participating include Adamawa, Bauchi, Bornu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara.
