IAR has a new ED, Prof. Ado. A Yusuf

  

Prof. Ado A. Yusuf is now the new Executive Director ( ED) of the Institute for Agricultural Research,  Samaru, Zaria.


The official announcement was made by the Ahmadu Bello University ( ABU), Vice Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala in a press statement issued today.


Prof. Yusuf will be taking over from Prof. Mohammad Fuguji Ishiyaku who happened to be the 14th past ED of IAR since inception in 1922.


Yufus before now was the Deputy Director of the Institute until his appointment and he gave a vote of thank at the just concluded IAR at 100 celebration held last week Wednesday at Balarabe Tanimu Conference Hall, IAR Samaru.

Ahmadu Bello University Appoints Distinguished Soil Scientist as Executive Director of the Institute for Agricultural Research Samaru, Zaria, Nigeria – 09/10/2023


In a significant development, Ahmadu Bello University's Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala, has officially announced the appointment of Professor Ado A. Yusuf as the new Executive Director of The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) Samaru.


Professor Ado A. Yusuf brings a wealth of expertise to his new role, having served in numerous capacities within the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture and Deputy Director of the Institute for Agricultural Research at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. His illustrious career includes notable milestones such as leading the Soil Science Department and immensely contributing to the university's academic excellence.


Professor Ado Yusuf's educational journey is a narrative of remarkable accomplishments, with each phase signifying a milestone in his academic pursuit. It commenced in 1998 at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Nigeria, where he graduated with a First-Class Honors Bachelor of Agriculture degree, showcasing early dedication and excellence in agriculture. In 2001, his academic narrative took an international turn when he bagged a Master of Science degree in Soil and Water with specialization in Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition at Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR) in The Netherlands. This experience broadened his horizons and instilled a global perspective in his growing expertise. Continuing through the years, Ado's academic odyssey led him back to his academic roots at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. Here, he authored a captivating thesis that earned him a Ph.D. in Soil Science in 2007 funded by the scholarship award of the prestigious International Foundation of Science (IFS) Sweden, marking the zenith of his academic achievements and establishing him as a prominent figure in the field.


Furthermore, he has enriched his knowledge through postdoctoral fellowships at the Soil Microbiology Unit of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and at the Department of Chemistry, Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa (2008 – 2010).


Professor Yusuf's educational journey, interwoven with dedication and intellect, serves as an inspiring testament to the relentless pursuit of knowledge and excellence. Each chapter in his narrative represents a significant step toward his current status as a distinguished soil scientist.


Professor Yusuf has supervised dozens of  postgraduate students within and outside Nigerian institutions and has several research publications to his name. His role in professional bodies cannot be overlooked. He is an active member of the Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS), the International Union of Soil Science (IUSS) and a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria (FSSN).


Professor Yusuf's expertise centers on Soil Health, with specific focus on Soil fertility management, Soil conservation, Soil carbon sequestration and Climate change.


The appointment of Professor Ado Yusuf as Executive Director of IAR Samaru heralds a new era of growth and innovation for the institute. His extensive experience and dedication to advancing agricultural research will undoubtedly contribute to the institute's mission to transform agriculture in Nigeria.
