Dry season farming: FG assures farmers on fuel, other challenges

 

As part of measures to ensure successful dry season farming for this year, the Federal Government ( FG) has said strategies are already prepared to cushion the effect of subsidy removal on fuel, climate change and insecurity related matters.


The FG through the Minister, Federal Ministry of Agricultural and Food Security ( FMAFS), Sen. Abubakar Kyari in the last Friday press briefing said that the government is not ignorant of the concerns some farmers have raised in view of subsidy removal on fuel, climate change and insecurity ocassioned by bandits killing people on their farms.

Sen. Kyari said that all would be taken care as measures have been put in place to checkmate any inadequacy that may arise along the above to farmers, saying that adequate security, provision of improved inputs/technology, and replacement of fuel energy machines with solar powering ones for water supply during dry farming season will be adequately provided.

The minister stressed further that the machines are already on ground waiting for the planting season to commence.

Also on security , he said that collaborations with the Agro Rangers department under the Nigerian Security Civil Defense will be enhanced towards ensuring the safety of farmers' produce to market places.

The Minister said the FMAFS will partner with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, River Basin Authorities to deploy water into farming areas using renewable energy sources to reduce cost on fuel.
