New Agric Correspondents executives promise more proactive reporting

The Agriculture Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ACAN) new executives have promised a better reportage of the sector towards economic and wealth development in Nigeria.

The newly elected chairman of the Association, Mr. Collins Nnabuife of Nigerians Tribune Newspaper in his acceptance speech on behalf of the other executives said agriculture as a sector will now be well reported, adding that the welfare of members would be paramount through the association's effective repositioning.

According to Mr. Nnabuife " First of all we will reposition the association, revitalize it and make it viable, we are going to ensure that the welfare of our members are well catered for.Most importantly we will cover agriculture, we will always maintain our mandate, each media home has their mandates, which their reporters follow, but the overall mandate is to cover the agricultural sector very well and do what we call developmental journalism"

He said further " When they talk about food security and the players needed to achieve food security, agriculture reporters are part of the key players. So we will also play our role by giving good reportage, and ensuring that members give good reportage about agricultural issues that will expedite the country achieving food security"

"More importantly we are going to work  with the government not as slaves but as stakeholders, where they go wrong, we point it to them, and where they need advice we will advise them, and we are going to partner with both the private and public sectors to ensure that there is food on the table of every Nigerian, and that is our mandate" 

Other executives announced by the chairman of the electoral committee,  Mr. Nnodim Victor of Punch newspaper are Ms Aniete Patrick from Core TV as Vice chairperson, Mr. Oluwaseun Ayeni, a correspondent from Food Farm News as Secretary,  while Juliana Agbo a business reporter with the Nation Newspaper was elected the Welfare/PRO.

While Caleb Onwe of New Telegraph Newspaper was the treasurer of the Association.
