Lake Chad releases 3 millet varieties, promises more to farmers, says ED



The Executive Director (ED) Lake Chad Research Institute (LCRI), Prof. Baba Gana Kabir has promised to continually ensure that farmers across all the ecologies of the country have access to all the newly released millet varieties of the Institute to achieve availability of well-fortified nutritious food in commercial quantities to checkmate import bill and create good health and wealth for Nigerian people.

Interior Minister calls for weather gardens in schools



The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has in the 2023 Seasonal Climate Predictions (SCP) called on the Government to  revive schools' weather garden across the country to create awareness of climate change negative effects on farmlands, properties and human lives.

The new Managing Director (MD) Premier Seeds Nigeria Limited, Mr. Ibitoye Oyewale Olumide has assured farmers of improved seeds availability with affordable prices towards rainy season plantings.

Lack of policy aids Governors' disregard for Agric extension, says NAERLS boss


The National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), Executive Director (ED) Prof. Emmanuel Ikani has attributed lack of  extension policy to why states' Governors are not funding officials in this department, saying the document to achieve it was still pending in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development ( FMARD).

2023 SCP predicts early rainfall, food increase, pockets of flood, says NiMet DG



The Federal Government (FG) through the Nigerian Meteorological Agency ( NiMet) Director General( DG)/ CEO, Prof. Mansur Bako Mutazu has predicted early rainfall in some parts of the country with friendly agricultural weather to increasing food production as some pockets of flash flood incidences should be expected.

Minister expresses disappointment over cotton productivity


 The minister, Federal Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (FMITI),  Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo has expressed his unhappiness over the performance of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) loans given to resuscitate the cotton value chains between 2017-2019 back to its state of glory as it was in the 60s.

NG-CARES not replacement to Fadama Project

Contrary to many people’ thinking, the World Bank- Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-Cares) assisted program of $ 750 million assigned to states government through their Governors  to cushion the effect of 2020 pandemic disease on the human livelihood in the rural areas has been said not to replace the Fadama project which had closed down officially.

New agric policy promises to increase extension work force


The new National Agricultural Technology and Innovation Policy (NATIP) had identified the need to increase the workforce of extension workers from the present numbers of 20,000 to 130,000 towards standard food productivity and security.
