Research on food not disturb by university strikes, says IAR ED

The Executive Director (ED), Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Prof. M.F Ishyaku has allayed the fear of food security being put in a jeopardy by the ongoing university strikes, saying there is understanding with the internal union not to obstruct strategic crops research being an economic activity of the government towards food security.

Prof. M.F Ishyaku hinted this recently during Foodfarmnews’ visit to the institute for a special verification on modern research to ensure food security and to know how the university strike is taking toll on their mandate activities on crops research.

The IAR boss said that the research activities on the mandate crops were not in any way disturbed as there is an understanding with the in-house union not to disrupt any research work geared towards economic activities and food security, adding that preparation towards the centenary celebration of the institute against September, 2022 is ongoing.

According to him ‘’ critical research are ongoing to ensure that the strategic position and economic situation of the country didn’t depreciate in the drive to make the country food secured. We are also hoping the strike may have been called off before September when the centenary celebration of the institute will come up as preparation towards is also going on’’

Also a check on the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IART&T), Ibadan has similar story to say in line with what is happening in the IAR as consideration was given to research on food security.

Speaking with public relation officer of the institute, Dr. Tunde Amusat said the strike had an understanding with internal union to allow research on food security matters not to be obstructed.
