Poultry meat: FG determines on deficit, says Minister

The Minister, Federal Ministry of  Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD)  Dr. Muhammed Abubakar said the Government is determined to stem up the country’s deficit of 529,000 metric tons of poultry meat using cottage processing facilities across that will set up across the states in the country.

Dr. Muhammed Abubakar disclosed this during the commissioning of the Dei-Dei market cottage poultry processing facility in Abuja.

Abubakar pointed that the country consumes 1.8 million metric tons of poultry meat annually, but only produces 551,000 metric tons to have a deficit of 529,000 metric tons saying this was why the Federal Government is determined to transform the poultry sector through the establishment of  cottage processing factories across the states of the country.

The minister said that “As part of the FG efforts to transforming the livestock industry, the establishment of a cottage poultry processing facility within the Dei-Dei market is to bring best practices closer to the beneficiaries and the entire market community, and this is a prototype for emulation ‘’

Also the National Assembly Chairman, House Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institution,  Alhaji Munir Dan-Agundi also in the press release  said that the facilities would create a lot of opportunities for poultry providers to process and sell to the public in a hygienic environment.
