Agric minister visits IDPs, gives out inputs for food production.


The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Dr Mohammad Mohmood Abubakar has given out agricultural improved technologies to Internally Displaced People (IDP) living in new Kuchigoro and two other places within the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT), Abuja.

 Dr. Abubakar said this today as he visited them in their camps as part of the event to mark world food day.

The New minister stressed that the IDPs must not only be indulged in being giving food items, but must be encouraged with improved farming inputs to be able to produce what they would eat.


He said " there is need to not only provide the IDPs which houses 1700 people (Adult and kids) with food items,  but we will empower them to ensure they produce what they eat"

 "My Ministry will not only provide you with food items but will empower them with farm inputs and creative farming technology that will enable them to produce their own food within their location without the need of mass land space".

The Minister added  that the federal government is doing her best to ensure that the IDP occupants are resettled back in their various homes, adding that IDPs was in the list of his key priority places to be visited.

Abubakar stressed that World Food Day is meant for the measurement of performance of indices of food security in order to reduce hunger, poverty and malnutrition among over 150 countries of the world.

Speaking at the event, the Secretary, New Kuchingoro IDP Camp, Mr. Yaphuma Luka expressed his happiness about the Minister's visit  and the great positive impact is going to have on people.

Luka said that the provision of the inputs would help them grow more foods without stress.

He advocated for school feeding progamme in the IDPs communities while he also demanded that the IDPs be involved in projects that will further reduce stress of displacement by engaging in food productivity activities.
