A new executive elected for yam association


The Federal Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (FMITI) and Federation of Agricultural Commodity Association Nigeria (FACAN) has conducted an election that emerged  Prof. Simon Itwange as the National President of the National Yam, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria and six other Vice President (VP) from the geopolitical zones of country.

Itwange who had been in charge of the Association since 2017 now officially became the new President under an election held yesterday at FMITI conference room.


Speaking with Food Farm News the newly elected president said that the association would be ready to partner with both public and private sectors to uplift the status of the produce to more enviable position in terms of economic empowerment to people and the entire nation saying that there is room for everyone to participate in the activities of the association at the local and international levels. 

Itwange pointed that ‘’ as the leaders of the Association, we will be working and collaborating more with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), FMITI, FACAN and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) to ensure that Nigerian yam returns to it pride of place globally’’ He added that more technologies will be introduced to see that the production of yam is increased.

Among the six VPs elected was Jerry Tyolanga for North east, Golden Chisa Amene for South-South, Alhaji Ibrahim Mamud, North West for and George Chibike for South- east pastor Olatunde Dare for South-West, Alh.  Muhammad Isah Galadima for North-central, Mikah Adamu Sule for North-west.

The position of the Deputy president went to Wumisan Damoeroem, while the post of National Secretary went to Hassan Sulieman, Assistant National Secretary went to Utah Tor-Biliji, National Treasurer was won by Amua Scholastic and Japhet Owoeye was elected as National Financial Secretary, Chief Galadima katare Bako for the position of the Organizing Secretary, National Publicity Secretary was won by Pastor Adeleke Timothy Adebayo,  National Public Relation went to Abiodun  Docas Agabi,  Assistant National Organizing Secretary goes to Ogunleye Olaniyi James while the post of National auditor was to be held by Mrs.  Roseline Ibitoye.

Speaking at the event, FACAN General Secretary, Dr.  Nuhu Dogodaji said that the election of the association was long overdue, and the association should not relent in its passion to reposition the yam produce in the country for more economic earnings.
