We say this because of the recent recommendation for the merger of the Ilorin, Kwara state-based innovative National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) with the National Agency for Science & Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), which is certainly leading to nowhere.

The chairman, All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Kano State chapter, Alhaji Abdurrashid Magaji Rimingado has described the N13 billion announced by the Minister of Agriculture to be spent on fighting birds, pests and diseases as being misplace of priority when considering the insecurity situation in the country. He made this statement in support of the National President, Architect Kabir Ibrahim who had earlier punctured the purpose of the amount immediately the Minister made the intension known to the public.

AFAN frowns at N13B intervention fund
The President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Architect Kabir Ibrahim has described the N13 billion intervention fund slated for pest control by Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) in about only 12 states of the federation as baseless to farmers’ need especially in the face of negative impact of covid 19 where many could not afford to get to their farms due to insecurity.

Intercropping, or the simultaneous cultivation of multiple crops on a single plot of land, can significantly increase the yield, not only of low input agriculture, but also of intensive agriculture, and reduce the use of fertilizers.
