FG TO ESTABLISH AGRICULTURAL PARKS

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) in partnership with a private organization will begin to establish Agricultural Industrial parks (AIPs) across the six geo-political zones in the country. This was contained in a press statement issued by the ministry.

In the statement, the state Minister Hon. Mustapha Shehuri stated that the Federal Government would partner Global Fortunes Limited to establish AIPs across the six geopolitical zones of the country saying that jobs and food sufficiency would be created.

The Minister pointed out that Government is committed to the development of the agricultural value chain in Nigeria saying that ‘’even with the huge infrastructural deficit in Nigeria, we can still embark on this project because the government is focused on diversifying the Nigerian economy.’’

Towards ensuring the project feasibility, the minister with his team of directors would be visiting the Taraba State AIP for more study and replication of the model in other zones.  

In his remarks, the Director, Department of Agribusiness, Dr. Aminu Babadi, said the project is a welcome development but mentioned that some of the challenges that could hinder the smooth take off include; energy and space utilization.
