Igwe, Ukulu Kingdom asks COMFAS to grow patiently in rural agriculture

The Igwe Peter Uyanwa Ezedike of Ukulu kingdom has advised the Community Allied Farmers Association of Nigeria (COMAFAS) to be patient and consistently pursued its rural agricultural development dream towards ensuring food security in Nigeria.

 Igwe Ezedike made this call while receiving the members of COMAFAS from across the six geo political zone of the federation into his palace at Ukulu kingdom of Anambra state as he was presented with the association’s document of activities being the chairman of Board of Trustees by Comrade Austin Maduka, the National President, who led his members to the palace.

In his words the Igwe said that “I am a farmers, I like farming. That is why I am speaking another language in my palace with you. Tell your friends that your traditional ruler is a member of COMAFAS. My advice is that you should be patient to grow COMAFAS. You are in the process of crawling, and you must endure to achieve your dream with patiance. Tell yourself the truth. I can see this people as people with hope. This community is the food basket of Anambra State where many communities come to buy agricultural produce as we are into serious farming”

Earlier at the executive meeting held at the Dunukofia local government of the state, the chairman of the council, Hon. Uchenna Umerie who acknowledged some of the people in the meeting as real farmers from his locality pointed that the promotion of Agriculture with Government full support would eradicate agitation in the country with job creation for both youths and women.

Hon. Umerie commended the effort of the Anambra state Governor for his effort for the development of Agriculture in the state saying this has positively affected the food security in the state as farmers are well supported with inputs and extension services using the council’s trails farm to educate farmers in the best agronomics practice with improved technologies that are made available.

This was the second meeting the COMAFAS executives would be having in the recent times as part of its community mobilization of real practicing farmers into the association so as to have more access to agricultural inputs, best trainings and grants particularly for the purpose of food security in Nigeria and other African countries.

In his speech, the National President COMAFAS, Comrade Austin Maduka commended the efforts of all members towards the association’s achievement in just ten months of existence saying “ our team, I must confess has done so much. I want to appreciate you all for this great achievement. COMAFAS has been recognized wide and near within the short period off our existence”
 
Maduka expressed that the Association has learn from many experiences to be a better organized platform that would positively affect the lives of members to better agricultural inputs for commercial agriculture as grants instead of loan would be made available to farmers saying “ we are proud to inform you that we have secured four wonderful programmes for our members, namely, distribution of free improved seeds, grant programme from EBAFOSA, one week training programme for our women by Feed the future, organized by USAID and Lead Africa. Under EBAFOSA over eight thousand names were submitted. Our hope and desire is that everybody will benefit. Ten persons were trained on mushroom cultivation last weekend. The period under review, we have gone Pan African. Some American partners are discussing with us on grant to farmers. Lafban innovation is also discussing with us on farming equipment through the bank of industry. Successmore Unbound Africa Limited is partnering with us on organic fertilizer also with Bicco and Prime Gold fertilizer”
