Sokoto to boost food production through Islamic financing

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State says the state will utilize the Islamic finance system to boost agricultural production.


Tambuwal, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Bashir Garba, spoke on Tuesday in Sokoto at a conference organized by Faculty of Management Sciences, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto.

The theme of the conference is: “Management of the Nigerian Economy in the 21st century,” with focus on issues and perspective of economy in Islam.

“The state government can gain immensely from this conference, and one of the areas the state can benefit is in Islamic finance in agriculture sector.

“This will aid the agricultural activities of the farmers by minimizing the cost of farming system and other challenges in the state,” Tambuwal said.

He said that the conference was appropriate in view of the economic challenges of the country.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, said that the economic challenges were not only peculiar to Nigeria but affected many countries.

“We need to give Islamic financial system a chance in Nigeria to guide the economic system in the country,” Zuru said.

The Dean of Faculty, Prof. Malami Maishanu, said that the aim of the conference was to provide an avenue for scholars to exchange ideas on the economy.

“This conference is to brainstorm on the different issues and perspectives facing the Nigerian economy, specifically from the Islamic point of view,” Maishanu said
