Adamawa Farmers Decry Lack Fertilizer In 2015 Cropping Season

Farmers in Adamawa have cried out over lack of government subsidized fertilizers in 2015 cropping season.
Some of the farmers, spoke with Food Farm News  in Yola, Mubi, Hong, Ganye, Numan and Girei Local Government Areas, said the development was disturbing.

“Most of us that planted our farms are still waiting for fertilizers from the authorities.

“Lack of it at this critical time will surely affects our yield since we can’t afford to purchase directly from market where it goes for about N8,000 per bag,’’ Zarami Buba said.

Joel Adamu, Papka Solomon, Ibrahim Buba and Musa Jauro, also decried the continuous delay in the supply of the commodity.

They told FFN in separate interviews that many of them from northern part of the state affected by Boko Haram had return to farm as the only means of picking up their lives.

“Our hope now largely depended on our farms. The rain is okay but our problem is fertilizer.
“Government should look into this before it’s too late,’’ Adamu said.

According to the report the Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Isa, had two weeks ago during a visit to Gov. Bindow Jibrilla, raised concern over lack of fertilisers.

“Your Excellency, our people have planted their farms but no fertilisers,’’ Isa said.

Responding on behalf of the governor, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abba, said the government had purchased 30,000 tonnes of fertilizers at the cost of N3.5 billion.
He said that the commodity was being expected in the state.
