15 hybrids crop varieties registered and released for commercial food productions
About new 15 hybrids crop varieties have been registered and released for commercial food productions among are three different tomato from National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT) and Sygenta Nig. LTD with high fruit yield and heat resistance to checkmate losses occasioned by climate change.
This newly released varieties is bringing the total national crops and livestock varieties released and registered at National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology ( NACGRAB) since 1989 till date to 345 with only one from livestock which is Shika brown for chicks by NAPRI, ABU, Zaria. The Chairman of the National Committee, chief Awoyemi charged with the responsibility has enjoined farmers to imbibe attitude of using all the newly registered varieties for commercial food production thereby commending West Africa Agricultural Productivity Programme (WAAPP) for its support for seeds development in Nigeria, while also solicit for government's more support
