The Relationship Between Debt and Global Hunger: A Special IPES-Food Report


The International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food) released a special report sounding the alarm on global food insecurity and debt crises. The report finds that 349 million people are facing acute starvation and many more will experience hunger with food prices remaining at historic highs and countries failing to meet debt repayments.

Soluble fertilizer : Nigeria losing out in over $20b business

The Federal Government (FG) ban on soluble fertilizer is causing green house farmers to lose out in about $5.8 billion market business as at 2019, and bind to increase to $20.64 billion by 2027 if speedy action is not taken, said the National Coordinator, HortiNigeria project, Abdullahi Umar.

Ekiti commissioner advises president elect on 50% Agric finding, state of emergency


The former commissioner of Agriculture, Ekiti state, Dr. Olabode Ayetoyi has advised the new incoming administration under the leadership of president elect, Alhaji Ahmed Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to increase annual budget for Agriculture by 40-50%, saying there is also a need for a state of emergency to be declared for the sector to progress.

Tomato levy: Two Federal Ministries trade words over levy removal, farmers want return

 


The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) has alleged its counterpart at the Investment and Trade of tomatoes cultivation retrogression through $1500 levy removal on every ton of the produce. Meanwhile farmers have also accused the free levy as an impediment to price competitiveness, thereby asking for its return to checkmate import.
