GMO: DG, Media Guru demand support for research, investigative journalism



The Director-General (DG), National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha has advocated Government’s proper funding of research for more generation of improved technologies for commercial foods productivity, just as the Managing Director, Guardian Newspaper, Mr. Martins Oloja  stressed the need for financial support to investigative journalism towards accurate facts for national development.

Minister visits ARCN, NAIC, NAQS, promises support



The Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar has assured to give necessary support that will boost food security matters in line with President Mohammadu Buhari’s vision through effective research works application, efficient insurance covers, and sustainable standard monitoring of agricultural produce by the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine (NAQS).

IAR director tasks scientists on meeting farmers’ need


The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) Executive Director (ED) Prof. M.F 
Ishiyaku has asked scientists to sap efforts more on research works that will positively impact on farmers towards food security and checkmate import bills. Prof. Ishiyaku stated this in a press release made available to us by the Institute’s public relation officer, Mr. Yakubu Dodo.

The Minister, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) Dr. Mahmood Abubakar has said that the government intervention on rice backward integration will amount to nothing if illegal importation of the produce is not stopped.

The representative, Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Mr. Aubee Ernerst Reuben has called the consciousness of Nigerian Government to harness leadership potential in organic agricultural practices to rejuvenate the economy into job and wealth creations across the West African sub region, while the Minister of Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade & Investment ( FMITI), Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo promised to ensure proactive environment towards enhancing the ecologically friendly agricultural practices of premium prices for export.

Agric committee chairman, university don agree on diverting security vote

The House Committee Chairman on Agricultural Produce and Services at the National Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Muntari Dandutse together with the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Abuja Prof. Park o. Idisi have both posited that a larger part of money budgeted for security is alternatively used to reposition Agriculture towards foods sustainability to check hunger and other insecurity vices.

Bakers ascribe high wheat tariff, taxes as cause of increase in bread

The National President, Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (AMBCN) Mr. Ishaq Abdulkareem has said high wheat tariff by Federal Government (FG) and unchecked taxes across the states of the federation are the cause of hike in the price of bread with other confectionaries, just as he posited the inclusion of cassava and potato flours as a means to checkmate import bill expended on wheat.
