The 2020 Annual Agricultural Performance Survey (AAPS) has unveiled that billions of naira have been lost to flood disaster of year 2020 with many infrastructures being destroyed with grains and fisheries in different states of the federation.

President Buhari approves N6,154,802,000 for fertilizer subsidy to farmers


President Muhammdu Buhari has approved a total of N6,154,802,000.00 as fertilizer subsidy fund to be disbursed to registered farmers under the data base of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) and states’ Agricultural Development Programme (ADPs).

Editorial - Why direct local govt statutory allocations will enhance agric development


The fact must be told that agricultural development in terms of meaningful impact on economic activities with full engagement of the grassroots people will be sustainable by way of direct release of statutory financial allocations to all the local government councils so as to stimulate rapid development in the rural areas as people participate in farming, livestock keeping, forestry preservation, security, health, education and environmental management of the rural areas across the nation. No doubt all these have been neglected to make rural areas become shadow of itself with no much impact of Government presence.

Bt Cowpea: Farmers promises 12.5m hectares in Africa as it commercially launches


As Pod Borer Resistant (PBR) cowpea is officially launched for commercialization at Kano last Monday, the President, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Architect Ibrahim Kabiru has said that African farmers would dedicate 12.5 million hectares of land for the cultivations of this particular genetically modified (GM) variety for its resilience and resistance to pest diseases to achieve the maximum yields toward food security.

The Director, Food and Strategic Reserve, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), Engr. (Dr.) Huruna Sule has said that 2020 covid-19 pandemic disease, insecurity, and climate change challenges across the six geo- political zones of the federation have made the nation’s concessional silos depleted as intervention releases of grains were given to front-line states, poultry association and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by the Federal Government (FG).

NAIC is set to take cattle damage cover, says MD


Seeks NCARD to prevail on states to pay premium timely

The Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC) Mrs Folashade Joseph has hinted that cattle damages insurance cover will now be taken to mitigate losses incurred by farmers due to animals’ invasion destroying farms, just as the corporation has appealed to the states government to ensure timely payment of agricultural subsidy premium for farmers against losses.

The National Council on Agriculture and Rural Development (NCARD) chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanano has approved the memo presented by Ogun state asking for the approval for farmers in Nigeria that are affected by climate change drought to be supported along with other 38 memoranda for the year 2021 policy implementation direction.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono has revealed that the Ministry has established an online portal to ensure efficient and effective monitoring of Federal Government intervention in the Agric sector.
